A Closer Look at Pennsylvania Auto Accident Numbers

As you may have noticed, Pennsylvania didn’t rank in the safest or deadliest states in the country. For a sense of comparison, let’s share the NHTSA numbers and other figures for Pennsylvania.

According to NHTSA stats for our state, there were 1,188 auto accident fatalities in 2016, with 1.18 deaths in auto crashes per 100 million miles traveled. Looking at 2016 auto collision statistics from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, we can get a better idea of crashes in the Scranton area. Firstly, there were 82,971 injury crashes in the state in 2016. Focusing on Lackawanna County in particular, the PA DOT recorded 15 fatal crashes and 1,238 injury crashes.
